Children's Training Program

Our 2 Day Ministry-approved training program is designed specifically for staff working with ‘special needs’ children supported in group homes, workshops, and  supported living environments, etc. Day 1 focuses on preventative measures, including sections on Risk Management, Relationship Management, Behavioural Profiling and Managing Aggression. The second day provides training in self protection and physical intervention techniques.

SMG’s 3.5 hour Online training consists of 25 videos, averaging 8 minutes in length. These videos are divided into the 4 Sections mentioned above. This self paced training requires the completion of a pre and post test.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Training Certificate. This training can be provided within an agency through one of the following options:

 

Training Options

Initial Training Options

2-Day Training
A SMG Trainer provides the training (traditional classroom model and physical intervention training).

2-Day Training
The agency’s internal Advanced Trainer provides the training (traditional classroom model and physical intervention training).

1½-Day Training (includes ½ day ONLINE training)
The first part of this training is completed using our Online training program (½-Day) and your agencies internal Advanced Trainer will provide the physical intervention training (1 full day).

Annual Refresher

Annual Refresher training is required through the following options:

1-Day Refresher Training
A SMG Trainer provides the training.

1-Day Refresher Training
The agency’s internal Advanced Trainer provides the training.

½-Day Refresher Training
Online training plus 3 hours in class physical review provided by the agency’s Advanced Trainer.

Train-The-Trainer Options

We offer 2 options for becoming a Trainer:

4-Day Advanced Train-The-Trainer
Prerequisite: Successful completion of the 2-Day SMG Training.

5-Day Advanced Train-the-Trainer
Prerequisite: Successful completion of the online training, a complete review of the SMG Manual and Physical Intervention Video.
